Edge of Tomorrow (2014) – A Crazy Review

Edge of Tomorrow 2Imagine a guy with no army experience being plunged into a war against super intelligent aliens whom are careless enough to pass on time-looping powers that he must harness wisely to prevent the extinction of mankind. An impossible mission, right? not for our four-time MI star, Tom Cruise! If you haven’t been to the cinema recently then you better get off the couch, grab some popcorn and rush over to watch #EdgeOfTomorrow while you still can in all its block-busting glory. It’s not just a blockbuster; it’s a gut-buster! I laughed more times than I ever did watching double bill episodes of Big Bang Theory. Still skeptical about the content?

Imagine a guy with no army experience being plunged into a war against super intelligent aliens…I was aptly surprised when I read the synopsis which suggested that Emily Blunt was the hero(ine) in the entire movie…yeah right! Tom Cruise wasn’t twiddling his thumbs. That said, Emily kicks ass! I lost count of the number of times she shot (and killed)…mostly Tom Cruise – I’m pretty sure it was about 301 times. I realize I’m probably not making any more sense at this moment but here’s a really brief rundown in true layman speak:

  • Man accidentally gets recruited into the mother of all alien wars
  • Man gets infected by alien after first kill and acquires ability to reset time
  • Man keeps reliving the time he is recruited into the mother of all alien wars
  • Man tries fighting without training, fighting with training, not fighting – all lead to death
  • Man collaborates with woman and sparks fly – The ‘Tomily’ chemistry is on point.
  • Man saves earth (of course an Impossible mission is possible with Mr. Cruise

Edge of Tomorrow 5Imagine a guy with no army experience being plunged into a war against super intelligent aliens…If only life could be that simple…LIVE | DIE | RESET. It’s probably one of the many things that makes this movie really appealing – imagining being able to start all over again whenever you made a mistake or felt things didn’t work out the way you planned. On a national scale I kinda wish I had the power to reset to the time when Nigeria was on the verge of discovering oil. That’s probably round about the same time when corruption (on an epic scale) was just rearing its ugly head. What would I do exactly? Convince them the future of Nigeria would be ruined otherwise? Plot to destroy all the oil wells in the country? Assassinate the political figures who own the oil wells and promote agriculture and tourism? There’s no guarantee but the best part is I’ll be able to do it all over again until Nigeria was set on the right path 🙂

“Imagine a guy with no army experience being plunged into a war against super intelligent aliens…”

Okay I’m done with my digression. Go watch the movie before I do another reset!
